Robert Winstanley Lunt

Tenure:
Hon. Lecturer 1927 - 1945

Robert W Lunt was a molecular spectroscopist who worked on discharges in gases. He was born in Lancashire, the son of a clerk to a cotton broker. He was undergraduate in Liverpool where he stayed to do his PhD. His earliest publication is in organic chemistry, in a joint paper with Robert Robinson in 1924. After that he seems to have shifted decisively into physical chemistry, devoting his research to the study of the emission and chemical reactions of small molecules under the influence of electrical discharges. The dates listed above are clearly incorrect as he was still publishing using the UCL address in the late 1960's. If anyone has information about him we would be grateful for any contributions and suggestions.
